The decision from airport authority bans journalists for sixty days to have access to Mogadishu airport to cover all public activities and denies the rights of the Somali people to know the truth and what is going on during election period.

According to the official letter from Mogadishu airport General Manager, anyone who violates this move will be meeting a company fine, jail time and will also be banned from entering airport at all.

"NUSOJ considers this move which is against openly the freedom of speech, freedom of media and movement and the rights of citizens to have access to independent information wherever appropriate” Secretary General of National Union of Somali journalists Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu said

We firmly stand and committed to defend press freedom and free speech and negate any sorts of violence in the media,

critical and constructive media accountable to the public is the base of every democratic society.”Mr. Moalimuu added

"The decision of the authorities at the airport security is a major concern among journalists and is fully threatening freedom of speech, Freedom of press, so we request Somali government to review this decision which against our constitution

that guarantees freedom of media and expression, NUSOJ President Mahir Jamac Aden said on Tuesday.

The union finally calls on Somali journalists to resist peacefully and discuss among themselves how they could together react the imposed restrictions and emerging suspension from the government.
