The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) welcomes the
recommencement of the radio Daljir station's activity which recently shut down by Information Ministry of Puntland State of Somalia.
Radio Daljir station was allowed to resume its daily operations on Monday evening, around 6:30 PM local time after being off air for twelve days.
According to an official statement released by Puntland Ministry of Information, Communication, Post, Culture and Heritage on Monday 04 July 2016, radio Daljir station was allowed to resume its activities after receiving a presidential pardon.
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) welcomes the
recommencement of the radio Daljir station and calls for Puntland authority to respect and guarantee the freedom of expression.
NUSOJ General Secretary Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu said "We are pleased that radio Daljir has resumed its operations and we hope this will be the last incident of authority closing down independent media serving the interest of its people” For a proper functioning of democracy, it is essential that citizens are kept informed about news from various parts of Somalia and even abroad or international news , Moalimuu added.
Since the closure of Radio Daljir, the national Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) together with Media Association of Puntland (MAP) were closely involving the efforts to reopen Radio Daljir and thus we would like here to thank all people, organizations that contributed to the resumption of Radio Daljir’s activities.
Daljir Radio is an independent radio which is widely listened many towns in Puntland and surely its closure affected to many residents who used to listen regularly the various programs aired by the radio.
