The deputy chairman of Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) has resigned from new Somali media council membership,due to immense interference from the Somali ministry of information,

The formation of the council does not enjoy independence and inclusivity and pushes further to a darkness of free media in the country.

SIMHA has earlier warned about the formation of Independent National Media Council of Somalia and called for the Ministry of Information to guarantee the independence of the Commission which didn’t happen.

Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) also voiced serious concern about the formation of the media regulator, as it has not been widely consulted with the free media representatives.

SIMHA therefore calls upon the Federal government of Somalia to come up with a process that’s transparency and widely consulted with the media.

The Independent media association representative has learned that the Ministry of Information sped up the formation of the independent media regulation without prior consultation ahead of the Somalia's elections.
