The president has the authority under the constitution to relieve the intelligence boss. Analysts believe this to be an unavoidable circumstance in a bid to reform the troubled security apparatus in Mogadishu.

In recent months there have been a spate of suicide attacks perpetrated by members of Al Shabab. Most recently, two MP’s were assassinated after an attack at the popular Ambassador Hotel.

The President immediately appointed Abdullahi Gafow Mohamud as the interim acting head of NISA. Mr. Mohamud is currently the director for Immigration.
