Hundreds of mourners thronged Mathakwaini Primary School grounds to pay their final respects to Ndegwa.

The soldier had served in the army for 15 years.

Speakers eulogised Ndegwa as a hero who paid the ultimate price for securing the nation from terror.

Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant-General Leonard Ngondi said Ndegwa served the force with dedication and rose to the rank of a Corporal.

"He was industrious, courageous, loyal and a professional soldier who wholeheartedly defended the country,” he said.

The army said they will ensure Ndegwa’s family gets compensation from Amisom.

Area MCA Kamuri Mwangi urged Kenyans to support President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto in the war on terror.

"We will only defeat terrorists if we partner as Kenyans,” he said.
