Somalia needs more help
Of the countries contributing to the African Union peacekeeping troops in Somalia (Amisom), Kenya has borne the brunt of the attacks by Al-Shabaab.

The country is still reeling from the loss of many soldiers in an attack on a Kenya Defence Forces camp in Somalia on January 15.
Ugandan and Burundian troops have also suffered losses, though the African Union mission still remains the most comprehensive effort so far to restore order and re-establish a government in Somalia.
However, it is becoming evident that the AU military mission might not be strong enough to clear the mess and set the country back on the path to reconstruction.
We could not agree more with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has asked other African countries to join in and contribute more troops to shore up the AU’s military presence. Most of lawless Somalia is a perfect training ground for militants to carry out attacks outside its borders.
And the ongoing Heads of State Summit for Amisom police/troops-contributing countries in Djibouti is a perfect forum to articulate these and other concerns and help chart the way forward.
The AU should seek more United Nations involvement to combat the regional threat from Al-Shabaab and its foreign allies.
