Mogadishu, 03 June 2017 – H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) briefed the media on the progress activities undertaken by the Federal Government of Somalia in past week. 27 May – 03 June 2017 HE Minister Yarisow noted the main progress activities in this period, which included:

The President appoints a committee to asses the situation in the Central Prison

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia has on the 30th of May 2017 appointed a committee of experts to assess the situation of the prisoners in Mogadishu Central Jail, for instance, their overall number and the cases they are charged with. The Federal Government is engaged in efforts to make sure that each and every citizens gets his/her basic rights; this step will lead that all inmates will get their basic rights, when they leave the prison and become citizens that can work for the development of their country.

PM Khayre laid foundation stone to repair the 30th Street

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia His Excellence Hassan Ali Khayre has on 28th of May 2017, laid the foundation stone to repair the 30th street which connects several districts in Benadir region, and the construction costs will be shared between Benadir Regional Administration and the Somali citizens. The Governor of Benadir region honorable Thabit Abdi Mohamed who addressed in the event of the repairing of the Street, has indicated that citizens in Mogadishu are required to closely work with the government, and take part in the ongoing development in the city. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre who has as well addressed at the event of the repairing of the 30th street has indicated that the repairing of the streets in the city will take part of the security stabilization in Mogadishu, and is the beginning for the public to get the services which they need from the government such as, health, streets and security.

Somalia and the EU signed development agreements

The Federal Government of Somalia and the European Union have on 27th of May 2017 signed in Mogadishu deals to implement development projects worth 48.4 million Euros. These projects are economic development projects, good governance and support of other different techniques which will be implemented by the EU in all-over the country. On behalf of the Somali government the deal was signed by the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and Investment His Excellence Jamal Mohamed Hassan, while the deal was signed on behalf of the European Union by the Director General of the Development Cooperation of the European Union.

Minister for Finance presents progress activities of the past two months

The Minister for Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia His Excellence Dr. Abdirahman Duale Beyle, has on the 31st of May 2017 held a press conference in Mogadishu in which he has presented the progress activities of the Ministry for the past two months, increasing government income, improving accountability, debts which Somalia owns the international countries and the taxation process in Somalia. The accountability plan for making the presentations for the public is a step to enrich good governance, accountability and transparency. Finally, the Ministry of Finance of Somalia has urged the Somali citizens to pay the taxes upon them, and on their side they will preserve what they have been entrusted with.

The Council of Ministers speeding up proposed needed legislation

The members of the cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Government have on the 29th of May 2017, had extra-ordinary meeting in which they discussed about the speeding up of proposed necessary legislation which are very significant for the government operations. The Ministers said that they prepared some of the needed legislation, while they are still engaged in consultation, but they have agreed upon that more than 20 rules are now available, and some of these proposals include:

Senior Al-Shabaab officer surrenders to the Somali National Army

Senior Al-Shabab officer by the name of Bashir Mumin Farah has on the 1st of June 2017 surrendered to the Somali Armed Forces in Hiiraan region. The Commander of the 52nd division of the Somali National Army Ahmed Mohamed who is best known as Tareedishe, said that the senior Al-Shabaab officer who has surrendered benefited from the presidential amnesty, and said he could not bear with the unkind and the unlawful acts of Al-Shabaab group on which they are treating the Somali citizens, and because of his taken the decision to come against the Al-Shabaab group which he was a member.

The ribbon of the premises of Galgaduud University is cut

Colorful event of the opening of the new premises of Galgaduud University was on the 31st of May 2017 held in Cabuudwaaq district in Galgaduud region in central Somalia. The event was attended by the State Minister of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E. Abdirahman Muxamuud Abdulle, Chancellor of the National University Mohamed Ahmed Jimale, Senator Abdiwahid Elmi, Lawmakers in Galmudug parliament, the district administration, the University Students, intellectuals and other guest of honors. The State Minister for Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdirahman Muxamuud Abdulle, has said that during the period he was in Cabuudwaaq he has noticed immense education progress made in the town.

Cleaning campaign in high acceleration

The districts in Benadir region were this week motivated on cleaning campaign, which is basically the restoration of the beautify of the capital city Mogadishu. The cleaning campaign are now underway in Hamarweyne and Heliwa districts. The Federal Government and Benadir region administration have given special consideration to the cleaning and urged the public to play a major role in restoring the beauty of the country.
