    South West State regions held consultation to review Somali Media Law

    Baidoa, 21 May 2017 - South West State regions of Somalia today held a public consolation and discussions to review Somali Media Law as part of the commitment and determination of the Minister of Information of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Baidoa, 21 May 2017 - South West State regions of Somalia today held a public consolation and discussions to review Somali Media Law as part of the commitment and determination of the Minister of Information of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

H.E. Hassan Abdi Mohamed, the Minister of Information & Public Guidance of South West State of Somalia stated that today's discussion and consultation to review the Federal Media Law of Somalia is part of the overall review of the Media Law throughout Somalia.

Participants of today's consultation and discussions to review the Federal Media Law had the opportunity to discuss and debate on paragraphs that needed to be re-visited as agreed on the Consultation Meeting to Develop Somalia Media that took place in Mogadishu between 6 - 8 May 2017.

H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow), the Minister of Information of the Federal Republic of Somalia had telephone conversation with Minister of Information of South West State of Somalia H.E. Hassan Abdi Mohamed who briefed Minister Eng. Yarisow the outcome of today's meeting in Baidoa where media stakeholders in South West discussed and reviewed the Federal Media Law.

Minister Eng. Yarisow said "I hugely thank Minister Mohamed for his commitment and determination to implement our agreements during Somali Media Stakeholders' conference in Mogadishu between 6 - 8 May 2017. I also had telephone conversation with other Ministers of Information from Federal member states of Somalia and urged them to provide an opportunity to all stakeholders to have a say in the review process of the Media Law as we want a Media Law that is agreeable to all stakeholders that is also meets the international standards of human rights and freedom of expression as enshrined in chapter 18 of our provisional constitutions."
