    Somali Government Progress Activities in the Past Week

    Mogadishu, 20 May 2017 – H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) briefed the media on the progress activities undertaken by the Federal Government of Somalia in past week.

Mogadishu, 20 May 2017 – H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) briefed the media on the progress activities undertaken by the Federal Government of Somalia in past week.

HE Minister Eng. Yarisow noted the main progress activities in this period, which included:

Consultative conference of the process of constitution review held in Mogadishu 14 – 16 May 2017

The Ministry of Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has held a consultation meeting which was attended by the Constitutional Ministers of the regional States of Puntland state, Jubbaland State Southwest State, Galmudug State, HirShabelle State and Benadir region. The consultation meeting was held in Mogadishu on the the 14-16kii May 2017. The meeting was part of a wider consultation which the Ministry was making with the entire different sectors of the society and the administrations in the country in order to implement and speed up the process to review the constitution. Communique was released at the end of the meeting.

Culprit who carried out explosion at [Suuqa Beerta] faces the Justice


The Federal giving consideration to on how the public can have justice and equality, the Court of the Armed Forces in Somalia has on the 18th of May 2017 carried out execution on Abdulkadir Abdi Hassan, a member of Al-Shabaab militant, which a car he was driving detonated at [Suuqa Beerta] in Waberi district in the year 2016.

Unified Secondary examinations commencing on the 20th of May
It is a great victory for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to accomplish the big preparation for the services of the examination, therefore on Saturday the 20th of May 2017 the secondary examination of the school year 2016/2017 in the nationwide will be taken, 23000 students will sit for the exam, and will be taken at 77 centers in the regional States of HirShabeelle, Southwest, Jubbaland and Benadir region. Seventy-seven invigilators, seventy-seven assistances, 1368 monitors, 962 security personnel and security officers and officers from the Ministry of Education will be taking part in the wellbeing of the examination.

Within two days $34,000 of Khat levy which used to go to the wrong pocket is saved

The Federal Government is committed to eradicate corruption. The new management at Aden Adde International airport in Mogadishu has on the 16th and the 17th of May collected more than $ 130,000 of Khat taxation when compared to the past days and weeks, that $34,000 which was used to be diverted into the wrong pockets has been saved. The Minister for Information, the State Minister for finance, and the deputy Minister for finance have on 17th of May 2017, visited Aden Adde International airport in Mogadishu to encourage employees for two days and the new airport berth tax type contributions to $ 34,000 without tax increases, and no extra Khat arriving.

The security agencies apprehend culprits who wanted to detonate harm the people with car packed with explosives

The security agencies with the help of the civilians have been tracking two cars which the enemies were intending to harm the civilians were rescued from the loss of the enemy meant. On 15 May 2017 the security agencies seized a vehicle which they have been following and three men who were onboard were arrested and salvaged the vehicle to harm the civilians. The car exploded while the mine experts were on their way. Likewise, on the 17th May, the security forces were chasing a vehicle which culprits have opened fire, this vehicle has exploded while the brave soldiers were engaged in dismantling an explosive device which was planted in the car.

5 men who were operating at illegal roadblock were arrested and paraded

On the 13 of May 2017 five men who were armed AK47 and a vehicle which they have been using for the robbing of travelers along the between Mogadishu and KM50 were paraded at the premises of the Ministry of defense after a military operation was carried out.

The Federal Government delivers food aid at Wanlaweyn district
Food Aid that was delivered to needy families in Wanlaweyn district, the food consisted of flour, rice, sugar, milk and medicine, the number of families who have benefited from the donation are 400 families. The Ministry of Interior and the National Drought Committee were spearheading the aid while the regional administration of the Lower Shabelle was present.

Operations to eradicate bandits from the roads is launched in the Middle Shabelle region
Operations to fight against bandits who laid illegal roadblocks on the raods in the Middle Shabelle region was last week launched on the road that links Mogadishu to Adalle district. Abiding by the instructions given by the President of Somalia’s the SNA are carrying out operations to hunt those who laid illegal roadblocks t extort money frim the civilians.

Symposium workshop was conducted for 20 women lawyers
On the 15th of May 2017 the Minister of Justice completed a workshop for three days in the capital symposium workshop for over 20 women lawyers from different regions in the country, the objective of the symposium was how to make cooperation and to strengthen the role of advocacy Somali girls to be part of the devolution of justice.

20 journalists have been given training to upgrade their skills
The Ministry of Information has trained 20 journalists from the national media, the independent media and the regional States media, and they were taught editorial guidelines and the most suitable way to produce information and quality programs. The training which lasted 14 – 17 May, 2017, This significant training for the development of the media was provided by journalist Abdurrahman Koronto and Hussein Jabril who are both consultants for the Ministry of Information.
