
Veteran Somali journalist Mohamed Aweys Mudey killed in Germany
Veteran Somali journalist Mohamed Aweys Mudey, widely known as "Boqorka Bartamaha,” was killed Friday night in Germany, where he had been living in recent years, Somali officials said.
Mudey was reportedly attacked by a man armed with a knife. The circumstances surrounding his killing remain unclear, and German police have not yet released details about the incident.
In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Information extended condolences to Mudey’s family, relatives and the wider Somali media community.
The statement was issued on behalf of Information Minister Abdifatah Qasim Mohamud, Deputy Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Omar Al-Adala, Director General Abdullahi Hayir Duale, department directors and ministry staff.
Minister Abdifatah prayed for Allah to grant Mudey the highest level of Paradise and to give patience and faith to his family, relatives, the media community and the Somali nation.
Mudey was among Somali journalists who fled the country because of insecurity and later settled abroad.
His death has prompted grief among Somali journalists and members of the wider diaspora who remembered him as one of the veteran figures of Somali broadcasting.
