— The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, said the Ministry will further strengthen its efforts to support Galmudug State, particularly in addressing the impacts of climate change and environmental challenges.

The Minister noted that Galmudug is particularly affected by the impacts of climate change and pledged that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change would advocate for greater support and sustainable solutions to address environmental and climate-related challenges.

Minister Bashir also said water issues are of particular importance to the people of Galmudug, noting that he would invite the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia to upcoming meetings to jointly address challenges related to water access and management.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Maareeye, said the Ministry would focus on increasing agricultural production among farmers in Mudug region by improving their knowledge and skills and encouraging the cultivation of crops suited to the region’s environmental and climatic conditions.

Minister Maareeye noted that technical support, agricultural knowledge and access to crops suited to the local environment are essential to increasing production, strengthening food self-sufficiency and improving the community’s economy.

The two ministers pledged that the Federal Government of Somalia would further strengthen its cooperation with Galmudug, prioritizing environmental protection, addressing the impacts of climate change, developing water resources and increasing agricultural production.

The meeting was part of efforts by the two "Green Ministries” to implement Somalia’s National Green Initiative, with a focus on ensuring that national plans directly respond to the needs and conditions of communities across the country.
