Hirshabelle regional state President Ali Guudlaawe announces re-election bid

Hirshabelle President Ali Abdullahi Hussein Guudlaawe has announced that he will run in the upcoming Hirshabelle presidential election, saying he is a member of the Justice and Solidarity Party.

In an interview this week, Guudlaawe officially declared his candidacy but noted that the party was still in the process of selecting its official candidates.

"I am a candidate, and I am a member of the JSP party,” Guudlaawe said, adding that the party’s final decision would be announced in due course.

Some members of the Justice and Solidarity Party have reported that Guudlaawe will be the party’s candidate for the Hirshabelle presidency.

Guudlaawe said his administration welcomes all political parties that want to operate in Hirshabelle and is ready to allow them to open offices in areas under the state’s control.

He called for unity and support for Hirshabelle’s development, saying political positions can change but the development of the state remains a shared responsibility.

The president also said his administration is ready to listen to public suggestions, complaints and ideas in order to strengthen cooperation and development.

The announcement comes as Somalia’s federal member states prepare for election processes shaped by the growing role of political parties, including the JSP, which is associated with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
