Somalis in Mogadishu and across all regions of the country, including Somaliland, marked the first day of Eid al-Fitr on Friday with prayers, family gatherings and messages of unity.
Thousands gathered in mosques and open grounds early in the morning to perform the Eid prayer, embracing one another afterward and exchanging greetings to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
Officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, regional administrations and the Banadir regional administration issued messages of congratulations, praising the public for celebrating the holiday together.
Leaders emphasized unity, solidarity and compassion, calling on citizens to use the occasion to strengthen social bonds and support vulnerable members of society.
Eid al-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the holy month of fasting, is one of the most important religious holidays in Somalia, bringing together communities across political and regional divides.
