NIRA extends free national ID registration period until January 31, 2026
Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has once again extended the free period for obtaining the National Identity Card.
NIRA Deputy Director General Abdirahman Said Ahmed announced on Thursday that the issuance of the National Identity Card will remain free of charge until January 31, 2026.
NIRA said the extension is part of its broader efforts to make it easier for citizens to access the National Identity Card, which plays a critical role in improving service delivery and strengthening national systems.
Abdirahman Said also noted that three centers have been established in Mogadishu to provide 24/7 service for those seeking to obtain their National ID.
He urged Somalis to take advantage of the additional time and avoid waiting until the final days, stressing that early registration will reduce congestion and ensure smoother processing.
The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is the government body responsible for establishing and maintaining Somalia’s national identification system and issuing National ID cards.
