The handover took place during an extraordinary meeting of the House of the People Standing Committee at Villa Hargeisa in Mogadishu on Saturday.
Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow praised Madobe’s leadership during his tenure, saying he played a key role in accelerating legislative work, strengthening cooperation within the chamber and ensuring the smooth operation of parliamentary business.
Madobe thanked the speaker’s office and members of the House of the People for their support and cooperation during his tenure, saying the achievements made under his leadership were the result of collective work.
Saadiya Yasin also commended Madobe’s service and leadership and pledged that the House of the People would continue fulfilling its constitutional duties until a new speaker is elected.
She said the chamber would prioritize legislative work, government oversight and representation of the Somali people during the transition period.
