
Police arrest soldier suspected of killing Bajaj operator in Mogadishu
Mogadishu (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu have arrested a government soldier suspected of killing a young Bajaj motorcycle operator in the Dayniile district of the capital, authorities said on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Abdullahi Ahmed Geedi, is in custody at the Dayniile District Police Station and is accused of killing Abdirisaq Abuukar Mohamed on Monday night. The victim’s body has not yet been buried and remains at Firinjeer, relatives said.
"The Somali Police Force, Dayniile District Station, has arrested the suspect, Abdullahi Ahmed Geedi, who is accused of killing the deceased Abdirisaq Abuukar Mohamed, a Bajaj motorcycle driver, in Dayniile District,” the statement said. "The suspect is in police custody and will be transferred to the relevant court.”
A relative of the victim, Yusuf, told the media that Abdirisaq and his wife, Aa’isha Abdi, had been preparing to travel to the United States after winning the U.S. diversity visa lottery.
"The deceased Abdirisaq and his wife Aa’isha Abdi were preparing for a trip to the United States, and the visa is ready,” Yusuf said. "All they needed was an interview in Bangkok, Thailand.”
The killing has sparked public concern amid ongoing efforts by authorities to curb incidents involving security personnel and civilian harm in Mogadishu.
