President Hassan Sheikh, who has been leading the fight against al-Shabab in Dhusamareeb for the past two months, has entrusted the task of accelerating the operations in Galmudug regions to the President of Galmudug State, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor.
Eritrea-trained Somali troops are playing a crucial role in the ongoing military operations in central Somali regions.
In August 2022, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched a "total war" against al-Shabaab. In the first phase, Somali forces focused on the central regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, supporting local clans that rebelled against al-Shabaab. The Somali government's second-phase military operation, Black Lion, will concentrate on the West and Jubaland states in the southern part of the country.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Asmara on Sunday for his fourth working visit since last year.
The Somali President and his delegation received a warm welcome from President Isaias Afwerki upon their arrival at Asmara International Airport.
The Somali government has stated that Mohamud's trip to Eritrea aims to strengthen relations between the two countries and promote defence and security cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the region.
