NUSOJ concludes the last leg of series training for journalists in regional states on conflict-sensitive reporting and safety of journalists in Jowhar with UNSOM support National Union of Somali Journalists supported by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) has embarked on a countrywide series of training workshops for local journalists on Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Safety of Journalists.

The last leg of two-day workshops attended 25 reporters concluded on Wednesday in Jowhar city the capital of Hirshabelle State

The objectives of two days training include
To enhance Somali journalists understanding of Somali conflict root-causes, drivers and triggers including structural violence that underpin and sustain the protracted community conflicts and violent extremism


To develop the professional capacity of Somali journalists on promoting peace, tolerance and conflict-sensitive reporting and enabling journalists in critical ways of producing unbiased reporting
To provide journalists with training that will enable them to work and reduce the potential risk that is facing them on the ground on the daily basis as they continue their critical work.
At the opening of the training, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists, briefed the participants about the training programme and thanked the local journalists to all the practical arrangements of the training and their warm welcome to Jowhar .
"I am very delighted to be here in Jowhar with you at this important training and I believe that journalists will benefit from this training which directly involved in their day to day media work ‘ Moalimuu said

Honorary guest from the Hirshabelle State, including Ministers and members of the local parliament,a respected elder and Jowhar District Commissioner attended of the opening ceremony of the training.
Hirshabelle Minister of Information Abdiweli thanked NUSOJ in organizing the training aimed at developing the journalisim knowledge of media professionals in Hirshabelle..
‘Galmudug journalists do not have a media association, so we would like ask NUSOJ and other media agencies which support journalists to help them have their own’ Minster Osman said.

Jowhar District Commissioner Osman Baareey who spoke at the opening ceremony said " We welcome NUSOJ to Jowhar and I hope you feel like home while in Jowhar. This is the first journalism training ever in Jowhar so we hope that this training shall be the last .
Hirshabelle Information Minster Abdiweli described that the workshop helps journalists better understand how to report conflict sensitive issues with impartiality and professionalism and we Thank NUSOJ and UNSOM which is supporting this training . I would like to underline that journalists in Hirshabelle need this kind of journalism training on different topics because as you aware of this is the first training which journalists receive in Hirshabelle . I also encourage to journalists attending this training to absorb the topics and apply in their daily activities .

A Journalist Abdishakur Shaashaa who was released from detention openly talked in front of local authority and expressed his feeling about his arbitrary arrests .
" I was arrested without due process due to revealing stories which the authority want to hide but the general public have right to know and want to know but what I practically experienced is that Hirshabelle judiciary is not independent " Shaashaa said.
