Mogadishu, 22 August 2017 - The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism hosted a Federal Government/World Bank workshop today, August 22nd. It was the first of two events to enhance reporting of government projects supported by the World Bank (WB) identify links that connect these projects and using communications initiatives to highlight the importance of government institutional and economic development for the Somali citizen.

The latest Progress Report of the World Bank-managed Multi-Partner Fund (MPF) was presented at the workshop, showing development of fifteen Somali projects that are supported by the MPF.

The workshop was opened by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow), Abdullahi Hamud, State Minister, Office of the Prime Minister and Ahmed Ainte, Director of Aid Coordination Unit. Attending from the WB were Puteri Watson, Senior Operations Officer & MPF Manager and Matthias Mayr, Program Officer, Somalia.

The World Bank in Somalia supports projects identified through the Somali Development and Reconstruction Facility and the National Development Plan, and they are mostly implemented by the Government.

"The success of these projects is a testament to Somali Government development in recent years”, commented Puteri Watson, "and we hope that through coordinating our communications efforts more people will know about and understand these Government successes, which benefit the Somali population.”

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Information said that, "The Federal Government is committed to implementing accountability and transparency system in our Public Finance Management, so that the country can attract more investments and gain the confidence of its people. The Ministry of Information is ready to inform public on government progresses and achievements”.

The Bank will be holding a second communications and engagement workshop in the Ministry, August 23rd for Somali media and Civil Society.                               END
