Somali President Appoints Eng Yarisow As New Mogadishu Mayor

Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has on Sunday named Eng. Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) as the Governor of Banadir region and Mayor of Mogadishu replacing former Mogadishu Mayor Thabit Abdi Mohamed and his deputies.
The appointment came after the relationship of former Mogadishu Mayor Thabit Abdi Mohamed with Villa Somalia soared prompting Thabit to organize an overnight conference that he said was elected by representatives of Banadir region for a 2-year term.
Somali government accuses the former Mayor of Mogadishu Thabit on corruption practices, specifically selling government lands and properties during his term in office. Somalia Presidency issued a decree reiterating that from 8 February 2017, all government lands sold were null and void.
Eng. Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow is the current Minister of Information and has held a various position from the government including minister of finance.
