BACKGROUND

Shabelle Relief and Development Organization {SHARDO} is a local NGO, nonprofit and nongovernmental organization operating in middle Shabelle, Banadir, Galgaduud, Hiraan and lower Shabelle regions of south central Somalia. The organization was founded in 1995 with the endorsement of the community leaders and the local authorities as well.

The organization has mainly focused on education, health and nutrition, emergency relief and rehabilitation, livelihood, health care activities in operational regions.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible for regular supervision, monitoring of health and nutrition activities and facilitate on job training in all health facilities supported by the project. She/he will ensure delivery of primary health care services to target populations in collaboration with the Field supervisors, field doctors, qualified nurses and entire organization chain managers.

The Health and Nutrition Officer will report to the Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supplies management:

In collaboration with the program Manager:

Ensure adequate supply of essential drugs, diagnostics and other consumables to the supported health facilities.·

Provide periodic inventories.·

Support in management of facility store(s).·

2. Supervision and support to the health facilities staffs:

Ensure identification of gaps in health and nutrition sectors and provide regular on job training.·

Assist/Support health facility staff in planning health facility weekly and monthly activities.·

Provide regular supervision and technical support to health facility staff including participation·

in monitoring and impact analysis of the project.·

Assist/Support health facility staff in compilation of monthly data reports and preparation of monthly health and nutrition supplies inventories and requests.·

3. Data and reporting management:

Centralize monthly health facility data on the internal project database and timely provide data and initial analysis to the program Manager.·

Ensure timely data collection and transmission as required by the project and/or by SHARDO.·

Prepare regular activity reports including data analysis and other elements as required.·

4. Monitoring of the health/nutrition situation

In collaboration with the field supervisors and program manager, constantly assess the health and nutrition needs of the communities and provide accurate data and information. Professional Requirements:

1. Essential

a) Health professional with public health experience background with degree in health-related fields (experience in implementation of community based health care and management of acute & moderate malnutrition).

b) Excellent management skills.

c) Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with local representatives.

d) Ability to work with a team while developing and implementing programs.

e) Ability to assess evolving health needs quickly and calmly under pressure as required.

f) Good computer skills necessary for reporting, data entry and analysis (Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint).

g) Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English and Somali languages.

h) Somali Nationals are preferred.

2. Desirable

I. At least 3 years previous working experience with an international humanitarian aid organization.

II. Previous experience preferably in south central regions of Somalia.
