Canadian-Somali activist Sharmarke Dhubow ranks top 25 in Royal Bank of Canada Awards

TORONTO (HOL) - Canadian-Somali activist and politician Sharmarke Dhubow has emerged among the Top 25
winners of the Canadian Immigrant Award for 2020.
The Settlement Agency Award was introduced in 2018 to recognize the amazing work immigrant settlement agencies are doing.
Dhubow
was elected councillor of the city of Victoria in 2018. That same year
was his first time to cast a vote and was elected in the then elections.
He
has won several community development awards and passed motions to make
public transit free, started a renters advisory committee, fought for
the addition of affordable housing in Victoria, and initiated
reconciliation dialogues between Indigenous and newcomer community
members among many other achievements.
Dhubow announced winning the award in his twitter page. "Happy to announce that I won the national award the 2020 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards. Thank you very much everyone who supported and voted for me.”

Dhubow who is currently the councillor of the City of Victoria bagged the prestigious award alongside 24 other immigrants whose work has been acknowledged as transformational in Canada.
