The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns in the strongest terms possible the murder of a female Somali Journalist in Mogadishu on Thursday, making the fourth journalist killed in Somalia in 2015 and the third female journalist killed in Somalia since 2005, the latest in a series of attacks against the press in Somalia.

The incident happened around 1:30pm, when a bomb believed to be attached to the car of Hinda Haji Mohamed, who works for the state run radio Mogadishu and Somali National Television exploded at Taleex street, north of KM4 road junction, suffering serious injuries. She was rushed to Madina hospital, where fellow journalists said, one of her legs was amputated. Later in the afternoon after 4:00pm she was pronounced dead.

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns in the strongest terms possible and calls for the Somali authorities to probe the incident urgently. NUSOJ and its entire leadership express their sympathies and condolence to the families, friends and colleagues of late Hinda Haji Mohamed.

"On behalf of NUSOJ, I strongly condemn the bomb attack that killed our colleague Hinda and call for the government to launch urgent investigations.” Abdirahman Hassan Omar, Assistant Secretary General of NUSOJ said, "Hinda was a prominent journalist and we will miss her.”

"I send my sincere condolences to the families and friends of late Hinda and ask Allah to award her with Jannah.” Mr. Omar added.

Late Hinda Haji Mohamed becomes the fourth journalist killed in Somalia this year and the third female journalist killed in Somalia since 2005. Among the deceased journalists this year are freelance journalist Mustafa Abdinor Safaana killed at Sahafi Hotel Attack, Daud Ali Omar, radio Baidoa (assassinated in Baidoa last April), Mohamed A. Moalin, Universal TV (killed in a suicide attack at the Jazeera Hotel last July).

On June 5, 2005, armed gunmen shot to death Horn Afrik Radio reporter Ms Duniya Muhiyadin Nur between Mogadishu and Afgoi. On February 9, 2005, armed assailants shot to death Ms. Kate Peyton, a Johannesburg-based BBC television producer outside Hotel Sahafi in Mogadishu.
